
Biography
Decyo McDuffie is a professional, award-winning jazz vocalist and recording artist. His classic sound harkens back to traditional swing jazz styles from the 20s, 30s, and 40s. Critics have compared him to greats like Nat King Cole & Johnny Mathis. Decyo is held in high regard by many of his contemporaries in the vocal jazz world. Internationally renowned jazz vocalist, Jane Monheit, has referred to Decyo as being “One of the most brilliant young singers out there.” Renowned vocalist and educator, Stephanie Nakasian, has said that “Decyo is great vocalist on the rise, and I can’t wait to see all that he will do.” Decyo was recently awarded third place in the 2023 Ella Fitzgerald International Jazz Vocal Competition hosted by the prestigious Blues Alley Jazz Club and Society in Washington D.C.
Decyo has been an in-demand vocalist since he started performing professionally in college where he has performed for galas, banquets, and other university-sponsored events. During this time, he has earned various community awards attributed to his vocal talents and work in community musical theatre. Decyo has performed concerts for large audiences at venues like Bo Diddley Plaza and Celebration Pointe. He also plays for smaller intimate audiences at clubs, listening rooms, and restaurants such as his weekly residency at Shula’s Steakhouse with the Hilton Naples.
During his time in college, Decyo recorded and released two duo recording projects. The first recording project was a vocal and piano duo album entitled, "I Could Be That Guy." His second recording was a vocal and electroacoustic harp duo holiday project entitled, “Harping My Way Through Christmas,” featuring esteemed harpist, Rossitza Milevska.
Decyo lives a dual lifestyle where he influences lives both through music and science. Aside from his musical career, Decyo also has an M.S degree in entomology and works professionally as an entomologist focusing on mosquito and vector control research.
